The National Technical Commission on Biosafety (CTNBio), using its attribution in accordance with Decree 5591 of 22 November 2005, regulates provisions of Law No 11,105 of 24 March 2005 and, according to the approved in the 137th Ordinary Meeting, held on 21 October 2010, stipulates the following conditions of isolation and disposal to grant planned authorisation release into the environment of genetically modified sugar cane:
- Establish the requirement for border with two rows of conventional cane sugar, around the experiments;
- From the outer border line, maintain a distance of three (3) metres with creeping vegetation cover.
- Additionally, for the north and north-east regions of Brazil, the experiments with sugar GM sugar cane should be far at least 100 metres from the outer border crossings block cane sugar exclusively conventional improvement programs.
- Elimination of incipient panicles of genetically modified plants.
- The biomass produced by experiments with GM sugar cane in distilleries should be discarded or crushed and buried in graves in areas with CQB.
-This Ruling Resolution shall be effective upon publication.
