Communication No. 01 of August 09th, 2006.


The National Technical Biosafety Commission (CTNBio), in
the use of its attributions, and in accordance with Decree
5.591 of November 22nd, 2005, that regulates dispositions
of Law No. 11.105 of March 24th, 2005, and in accordance
with what was approved on the 93rd Ordinary Meeting, that
took place on July 20th, 2006, determines the following
isolation conditions for authorization concession of
planned release in the environment of genetically modified
corn.
1- The institutions or entities interested in obtaining
authorization for planned release in the environment of
genetically modified corn should adopt, at least, one of
the two alternatives stipulated below:
(a) spatial isolation: to establish contention border with
ten rows of non-genetically modified corn around the
experimental parcels and keep a distance of 400 meters from
other corn plantations;
b) Time isolation: to establish contention border with
twenty rows of non-genetically modified corn around the
experimental parcels, keeping a distance of 100 meters from
other corn plantations, and respect the minimum period of
40 days between the florescence dates of other corn
plantations.
2 – In case of cultivation of creoles varieties of corn
near the experimental area, the interested institutions or
entities should establish, around the experimental parcels,
a contention border with ten rows of non-genetically
modified corn, keeping a distance of 400 meters from other
corn plantations (spatial isolation), and respect the
minimum period of 40 days between the florescence dates of
other corn plantations (time isolation).
